The heart of Provence is made of sloping vineyards, cultivated lands and colourful scenery
that charmed Cezanne, Van Gogh, Chagall or Giono.
Provence sounds like olive groves, lavender and famous vineyards of Côtes du Rhône, Côtes de Provence and Châteauneuf du Pape!
This region is made of vast and surprising contrasts.
The city of Marseille is a busy urban and cosmopolitan centre. Its port is the most important and opens the city to the world through the Mediterranean Sea. On the contrary, Aix-en-Provence is more provincial and attracts many tourists for its Provencal flavours (santons, calissons…).
On the coastline, the Calanques, stretching from Marseille to Cassis, are amazing wild creeks
and rocky cliffs rising to the sea.
Another picturesque part of Provence is the Alpilles, sharp peaked hills surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and
almond trees, with St Rémy de Provence in the centre. The Alpilles offer a beautiful landscape of high villages,
bushy valleys and calcified crests.
Right in the heart of Provence, Lubéron offers historical and cultural sites such as Abbey of Senanque and the
typical villages of Gordes, Roussillon, Lourmarin.
Camargue is made of vast plains of wetlands, ponds and rice paddies where pink flamingoes, herons and
cormorants are common to see. Camargue is known by its Gypsies, cattle breeding cowboys on their white horses.
In the Provence des Papes, a protected site for more than 20 centuries, the land is rich in truffles, lavender, honey and good wine!
